MAKING DATA-DRIVEN DECISIONS
August 24, 2007
Welcome to the digital companion to my presentation included in the Landstown High School Summer Continuous Learning Conference. The exemplars I shared during in this session are accessible below.
The Statements of Competencies outlined by the Intersegmental Committee of Academic Senates and National Association of Manufacurers remind us that Virginia Standards of Learning--while important as baseline measures--leave much to be desired. |
The Digital Portfolio Interview Project I use in all my courses requires each student to complete challenging assignments throughout the year and then defend them in a 45-minute interview with community professionals who have previewed their year's work. |
Online Socratic dialogues are an excellent way to promote critical thinking. They also serve as a wonderful diagnostic tool that can significantly reduce your grading load. |
On the subject of grading, take a look at the before and after bell curves I use to help students take ownership of their learning and to help me ensure that I am teaching them everything they need. |
National Board Certification is a tremendously empowering and worthwhile pursuit. Click here for additional information on the process or see me for additional guidance. |
I enjoyed working with you today. Thank you for your patience, participation and enthusiasm. Once the school year gets underway, I will will invite interested professionals to participate in a monthly seminar on meaningful, data-driven decision-making.
